Agence Mickaël Spinnhirny unveils its new creation

Agence Mickaël Spinnhirny Launches Tour of New Show Midnight Somewhere

at Danse Danse

Kicking off a 14-city tour, the world premiere of Agence Mickaël Spinnhirny's second contemporary dance production Midnight Somewhere (Minuit quelque part) at Théâtre Maisonneuve on February 6 and 7 comes a surprise addition to the Danse Danse program. Celebrating the unifying power of dance, Midnight Somewhere features ten performers and eight choreographers in a show imagined and staged by multidisciplinary artists Lydia Bouchard (Révolution) and Merryn Kritzinger (Ex Machina, Cirque du Soleil) of the La Résistance collective. The show received financial support from le gouvernement du Québec.

It's a great source of pride for our agency to produce a large-scale show that – I'm sure – will bring audiences together to witness the exceptional dance created in Quebec. - Lydie Revez, producer

Movement as Celebration : When Révolution Meets Contemporary Dance

Channeling the dazzling energy of pop and the virtuoso ingenuity of contemporary dance, Midnight somewhere taps into that irrepressible need to move when life overwhelms us. Eight tableaux imagined by La Résistance are skilfully interwoven to unite the creative power of contemporary Quebec choreographers spanning three generations of inventiveness: Marie Chouinard, Anne Plamondon, Kristen Céré, Ismaël Mouaraki, Virginie Brunelle, Charles-Alexis Desgagnés and the Bouchard / Kritzinger duo. The explosive yet moving work is embodied in the athletic and precise gestures of ten performers from both the contemporary and pop scenes, including Révolution winners Katerine Leblanc (Team White, 2018) and Yoherlandy Tejeiro Garcia (2021). Alex McMahon's thrilling music, Sébastien Dionne's hypnotizing costumes and Julie Basse's ingenious lighting - with set design advice from Stéphane Roy - envelop the movements to elevate this poignant work to the rank of unforgettable experience.

More than just a show, Midnight Somewhere is the convergence of visionaries and virtuosos, both on stage and behind the scenes: thanks to our exceptional partners, the entire industry comes together to uplift dance. - Mickaël Spinnhirny, producteur

Midnight Everywhere in Quebec

While the team of Midnight Somewhere is honoured of start its adventure alongside Danse Danse at Place des Arts Montreal, this is just the beginning of a tour that will include stops in Quebec City, Rimouski, Montmagny, Saint-Jérôme, Val-d'Or, Baie-Comeau, Chambly... The online calendar ensures that you won't miss the show when it comes in a city near you.

A Second Unifying Production

For Agence Mickaël Spinnhirny, Midnight Somewhere comes after On the Matter of Flowers (La question des fleurs), a show created during the pandemic with four choreographers and a duo of dancers to question the beauty of physical contact during social distancing. Presented in 30 cities and two countries, On the Matter of Flowers paved the way for this new large-scale creation. With the aim of rekindling interest in contemporary dance in the regions after the pandemic hiatus, the agency is now offering a show that hopes to meet the needs of presenters, the inspirations of artists and the cravings of audiences. The production benefits from the invaluable support of le gouvernement du Québec through its call for projects to promote Quebec culture, in order to create and propel this work across the province.
